DIY : YOGA MAT CLEANER

Each time using your yoga mat, sweat and dirt grip to your mat. Moving into child pose, with your nose pressed to the floor. Breathing in, isn’t going to smell so great if you don’t look after your mat and clean it regularly.

As part of your ritual for your practice, having a spray bottle of cleaner on hand is quick and easy to spray and wipe down the surface as you finish. Keeping your mat clean and fresh, for each time you roll it out.

Having the natural approach will be gentle on your mat. Here are a few recipes for making your own for home, and classes. Putting it in a small bottle, makes it easier to pop into your bag while on the go, and a must have for any yogi.

Cleaning Ingredients: First Cleaner

– 1 cup distilled water

– 1/2 cup white vinegar

– 10 drops of essential oils (lemon, peppermint or orange)

Cleaning Ingredients: Second Cleaner

– 1 cup distilled water

-1/4 cup witch hazel

– 10-15 drops of tea tree oil

– 10 drops of essential oils (lavender, grapefruit, or geranium)

When it comes to essential oils, its always best to choose the ones you personally prefer. Mix them up how you wish, many people prefer lavender yet I don’t particularly like it. I would rather have peppermint.

Caution: if you’re doing pregnancy yoga its best to research essential oils to avoid. While breastfeeding, avoid peppermint as it may dry up your supply. Clary sage also can bring on Labour. Women like to use it at the end of their pregnancy to bring on contractions. However avoid it while you’re in the first and second trimester.

Always seek medical advice from your GP before using essential oils.
